Menindee Wier. |
We wanted to travel down from Wilcannia to Mildura.
Take some back roads.
Take some back roads.
The first step was to check the roads were passable.
We did a fuel stop in Wilcannia
got the OK from the authorities
got the OK from the authorities
And were off.
Want to explore that place Wilcannia one day
has some interesting history.
Next time.
The roads not too bad all but 30ks had just been graded lucky us. |
Menindee and sculptures |
These trees along the Darling River. |
The trees sending their roots down the banks
in search of water.
Looking spooky
like the trees out of Lord of the Rings
........... ready start marching at any time.
Pooncarie Wharf. The riverboats used to moor here. |
What a hard life those River people had back in the day.
They could be stranded for months,
when the river stopped running.
........... quite often by all accounts.
Can only imagine the hardships and isolation they suffered
Spent a few days dodging our national emblems
Watching the emus run they look so graceful their feathers flouncing like a skirt. |
These Kangaroos had a death wish they didn't know how hard it was to stop the rig. Close very close. |
A very interesting drive
some lovely waterholes
with good camping spots.

All agree it's on the list to do again.
Slower next time.
Sir and I had a 60th to go to in SA
so we kept on the move.
Doing it their way. Slow and steady. |
