The Outback

We have been out in the sticks.

Definitely the outback.

Rules are needed.

Some are.

Never miss an opportunity to fill up with fuel,
distances between fuel stops can be hundreds and hundreds of ks.
The price of fuel though can sometimes leave you gasping.

Always check the local road conditions,
the local constabulary is usually the best.

Always
give the passing vehicle a wave,
this is the one finger off the steering wheel type.
Always
wave when passing a vehicle towing a van,
usually a full handed cheery wave from the steering wheel type.

Always

when confronted with a road train
 usually 3/4 trailers long
get right off the road,
and I mean right off,
they are always in a hurry
they don't need to get the wobbles up

Some of the roads are a single tar strip
if  they have to get off the road
it could cause the wobbles and loss of control.

Getting off for us is nerve racking at times
pretty hairy as the road edges can drop off sharply.
Sometimes you have nowhere to go
so pull up stop and let them go.

This year we are zig zagging
 across outback Queensland,
plans change as we go.
Some roads closed due to rain
Some are bone shakingly rough
in the case of the one from Pooncarie to Menindee
we whimped out and took the tar to Broken Hill.

We have travelled across many plains, mind numbingly boring
...............BUT..................
Sometimes you stumble across some breathtaking beauty
as we did the other day.

How lucky are we
to park along this waterhole.
Enjoy the birdlife and chill out.
