As usual when we have visitors
we get to see some of the states attractions.
Sometimes we need a jolt to get us out and about.
Too easy to stay home.
This time it was Woolmers an Estate near Longford.
Woolmers is one of the original pioneer estates.
The success of this estate began by Thomas Archer (the first)
was helped by a great extent with the use of cheap convict labour.

Owned by the Archers for 6 generations
the last was bachelor boy Thomas Archer who left it
in trust so everyone could enjoy the history of this special place.
With all the outer building remaining and in good nick

With all the outer building remaining and in good nick
it does give a good insight into 19th century farming Tassie style
If you strike it lucky like we did,
you'll get a guided tour by one of the family.
Another attraction
especially through spring to autumn is the national rose garden.
With over 5000 roses the perfume in Spring is amazing.
The largest in Southern Hemisphere.
This time we were there in late Autumn.

Over the years they the trust have established a kitchen garden,
showing and growing rare heritage vegies .
From that came a lovely little cafe in the servants kitchen,
serving light lunches.
They do a mean soup and Damper,
Watched very carefully through the cafes kitchen window by resident Rooster and harem. |
We are on the count down for the migration to the mainland,
and thankfully for me motivation has kicked in
my list of to dos is getting smaller.
Sir has had a bit of a hic-up with some chippy thing not working in the Ute
they assure us it will all be sorted by next Thursday,
Fingers and Toes.
xDee
