Thinking Doc Martin.
Thinking
a fishing village England.
a fishing village England.
Thinking how would I really know.
Haven't even been there.
Surely it
would have the look and feel of
Stanley,
this sweet little fishing town
in the NW corner of Tassie.
A striking feature of this town is "The Nut",
standing out like the proverbial,
believe its the plug of a volcano.
The Nut is an imposing sight,
and can be easily accessed
via a very good walking track,
or a chairlift ride to summit.
No guesses as to which one we took.
The view is spectacular ...... but os so very windy.
Stanley is built the leeward side of "The Nut". Wise move |
Definitely has an English village feel,
coz it was settled by the English in 1800's.
It also has an interesting history of convicts.
The convicts were
consigned to work for
the Van Diemens Land Company,
who operated out of Stanley at the time.
The posh end of town Highfield House. Where the Managers of Van Diemens Land Company lived |
Opposite the entrance of the house The ruins of the convict barracks |
And to the law only to me
has the best fish and chip shop ever.
Sir, Lord L and their friends all enjoyed fish and chips for lunch. |
Over the past few years
it has become a trendy little town
with great coffee shops
and top B&Bs.
Do hope it keeps the fishing village quaintness.

P.S. Joseph Lyons one of our Prime Ministers came born here.
